Granny gear is the first gear in most heavy duty truck manual trannies. It simply refers to the speed the truck will go in that gear ( really slow ). It is used for getting heavy loads moving. Most trannies with a granny first gear are very desirable because they are pretty heavy duty and will take a lot of abuse.
